This petition urges the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department to close Ridley, Joiner, and Preston Brooks until May 31. In order to protect, retain and potentially enhance the wild adult rainbow trout population in Winooski below Bolton Dam, it is critical that adult spawning fish be allowed to spawn successfully without angling mortality before dropping back to the Winooski mainstem. This stretch of the Winooski is among the heaviest fished in the state, and with similar protections afforded to the Willoughby and Black Rivers to the north, and the White River to the south, the time has come for equal protection.
